POSITION 1 – PAST
This position represents the past where the situation originated.
THE TOWER – Another quite scary image, this card is sometimes called the Tower struck by Lightening or, on a more positive note, the Tower of Liberation.
This card indicates sudden change (rather than the slower process suggested by Death). It’s when something goes “bang” in your life and you are thrown out of your comfort zone and forced to confront change. This change may be pleasant or unpleasant, but this all depends on your perception of what is pleasant or unpleasant. It can indicate that you get a shock to the system you weren’t expecting – it’s not what that shock was but how you deal with it from now that is important.
This card can indicate violence or even an accident of some kind, but that is in very extreme circumstances and you need to look to the surrounding cards and the question asked for verification.
In a love/relationship reading the appearance of the Tower can show either the abrupt ending of a relationship or, in fact, the experience of love at first sight where eyes meet across a crowded room and BANG, instant attraction. In an established relationship the Tower can show a row or argument, but also indicates that this needed to happen in order to clear the air.
POSITION 2 – PRESENT
The present situation.
KNIGHT OF WANDS – The life and soul of the party, flirtatious and happy go lucky, but don’t expect to hear from him the next day. He runs away from emotional attachments, gets bored when things turn more serious and struggles with any form of commitment.
He can also represent an older man with a string of failed relationships, all due to his commitment phobic nature. Have a good time with him by all means but protect your heart! He may makes plans that he fails to keep, promises that he fails to deliver or describes himself in an idealistic way that makes you fall in love with an illusion that fails to materialise.
POSITION 3 – FUTURE
The most likely outcome for the near future.
THE SUN – Always a nice card to find wherever it appears in a spread. Light, optimism and good times. A strong sense of well being and happiness prevails. Perhaps you have finally achieved a long awaited goal, passed an exam, got a promotion at work or maybe a new baby has arrived in your family.
You now look at life with renewed optimism, much like the innocence of a child. Your optimism may be contagious and your attitude may bring joy and happiness to others around you. You are pleased to share your good fortune with others and seek to dispel doom and gloom in friends and family
